Can you please tell me what considerations should I have in mind before hosting my web site?

Hi,

I plan to have a website using html and a ASP.Net form to contact me.

The website will show info about my small business only and I do not expect it to be visited more than maybe 15 times per day.

Please suggestions of aspects to consider and referals to some good companies in UK that offer reliable hosting service for a reasonable price.

Thanks in advance for your answers.

If you like to create websites (usually you will end up more than 1 website, I got more than 100 websites in about 6 months%26#039; time), go for multiple web hosting services where you could host all your websites in one account.

I would like to suggest following webhosting which I use (I live in UK), they are excellent.

Hostmonster http://www.hostmonster.com/track/ryukend...

They offer hosting of %26quot;unlimited domains%26quot; and you will get massive webspace of 300000 MB (300 GB ). They only charge $5.95/month and they offer %26quot;a free Domain Name%26quot; and installing service called %26quot;Fantastico%26quot;. By using Fantastico, you could create own forum, photo gallery, shopping cart (e-commerce),your own auction site and your own blogs within few seconds. They also offer %26quot;Free Website Builder%26quot; as well.

Visit the site to check details.

Domains

Following site is quite good to register domains as price is reasonable with free privacy. Some charge about $5/ year just for free privacy.

wdit.co.uk is a good company and i use it for all my hosting needs. There isn%26#039;t a lot to take into consideration other than you have all the relevant information ready build a fully informative site. I would need more info to offer any sound advice. If you want any further help get in touch as i would be happy to help.
Reply:I have a couple of domains with Easyspace.com. I%26#039;ve never had any problems with them.

With about 15 visits per day, there really isn%26#039;t much to consider. You could choose the cheapest hosting package there is. However, if you%26#039;re going to use a database in your site, it will be a little more expensive.

Personally I would use PHP, not ASP, but that%26#039;s just me.

Reply:Hiya, just saw this post in passing. There are really 2 main factors for a first time website:

What will be on your website: A simple page (0.1MB-1MB) or a more intensive site which you want to allow people to download stuff from e.g. menus, price lists, photos.. (1MB-100MB+)

The sky is the limit in terms of how much you put on there and many services offer storage amounts of 50MB up to Unlimited although cost does obviously vary.

How many people will visit: Who are you giving your address to, if you are only passing it out on business cards or to existing customers/friends then you won%26#039;t be having many visitors (as you say 15 hits a day..).

What you need to take into consideration here is how much stuff is on your site then multiply this by the number of people that are going to visit it.

E.g. If I have a simple site which is 100KB (0.1MB) and expect 15 people a day then I will use:

0.1MB x 15 people x 30 days = 45Mb a month of traffic. Typically from experience if sites don%26#039;t get much traffic then they won%26#039;t need much bandwidth, unless your site is being seriously promoted you shouldn%26#039;t expect too much.

In terms of who can you use to host, at the cheap end of the UK market: Purple Cloud www.purplecloud.com do really cheap low volume hosting, I pay about 拢10 a year, and have not noticed any downtime.

At the more expensive end someone like Fast Hosts (http://www.fasthosts.co.uk/hosting/) will charge from around 拢50 a year.

Hope this helps you on your conquest :)
